When The Wind Blows
2020-Present
When The Wind Blows documents the destruction, stagnation, and eventual recovery of burn areas in West’s hometown of Boulder, Colorado. Since 2020, West has photographed neighbourhoods and forests which were completely burned by fires throughout West’s childhood. The project opposes shocking, breaking-news style imagery generally associated with climate disasters and instead documents the slow rebuilding of areas long after they’ve been destroyed.
When The Wind Blows’ aim is to raise awareness for the long-term impact these disasters have on land and local communities, encouraging thoughtful and sustainable restoration.
